The „shorties“ have become established. This is the take home-message of the 11th Expert Symposium on short, angulated and diameter-reduced implants. In the conclusion of this weekend in Cologne following the conclusion of Expert Symposium and European Consensus Conference (EuCC) under the auspices of BDIZ EDI (European Association of Dental Implantologists) is that these implants are viable treatment option. However, there are limits: When using short implants that also have reduced diameters, an increased failre rate of up to ten per cent after three to five years can be expected, as a review of the pertinent literature has shown. The guidelines of the EuCC can be obtained from this issue. In addition, the Past President of the CED (Council of European Dentists), Dr. Wolfgang Doneus, focuses on the relationship between dentist and dental team. „Delayed versus late“ is the classical question for implant clinicians and will be answered in the case study of Dr Peter Randelzhofer, Munich/Germany.
